R & F Handmade Paints of Kingston, NY is the best supplier of the encaustic paints that I know of. If you are interested in learning how to work with this medium, I would encourage you to make the time to take one of their excellent week-long encaustic workshops. It is a great way to learn the mechnics of encaustic as well as meet others who share your interest. Truly an inspirational week.

Debra Fritts is a wonderul ceramic artist. I first became familiar with her work about five years ago and I haven't been able to resist it ever since. Like a good encaustic painter, she creates her work with several layers - often firing her sculputures seven times. The finished product offers remarkable texture - and always tells a poignant story.

The Oiseaux Sisters (a.k.a. Susan Andrews and Carolyn Fellman) are mixed media artists who live in upstate New York and Florida (apparently they are migratory birds!). They hold wonderful weekend workshops on mixed media and papier mache.

Stepanka Horalkova is a ceramic artist from the Czech Republic who moved to New York City in 1995. She is a teaching artist who I met at a street craft fair on the sidewalk in front of the Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. |
